Risk Assessment

 photo Risk Assessment_1.jpg
Here I have written up the possible risks that we must be aware of whilst filming at our locations. As we are filming in a house there are not many risks there. However, filming outside, a possible shot will be walking down the middle of the street in a rebellious way which we must be cautious about due to passing cars.

Photo-shoot Checklist

Photoshoot Checklist is powered by Checklist

I created a check-list of the things I needed to prepare before taking pictures of my actress. I did this so I wouldn't forget anything and our photo-shoot could run smoothly.

Typography Ideas

I used PicMonkey to search through various different fonts. These are the 6 fonts I short-listed for the Album cover. Initially numbers 3 stood out the most to me for the artists name and number 1 for the album title.
I decided to check with my target audience to see if they agreed with me.
I described my artist and his genre as well as the style of music he makes (with reference to similar artists) and here is a quote from one of the people I asked:
"2 and 3 are a little too girly and cutesy for this artist. I like 1 because it is fierce and edgy but 4 looks confident and personal."
my target audience was almost unanimous with the choice of either 1 or 4
This feedback persuaded me to change my mind from font 3 to fonts 1 and 4.
I will use font 4 (Black Jack) for her name and font 1 (Edo) for the album name as I had previously intended.

Artist Name

When choosing a name for my artist I considered the names existing artists in my genre of pop called themselves. I noticed that most used their own names (Or alter-ego names) such as Gwen Stefani and Cher Lloyd. Genres such as dubstep and house tended not to use their names such as Skrillex or Diplo. This agrees with Dyer’s Star theory that celebrities are created and marketed as products considering Skrillex’s real name is Sonny John Moore.
I decided to conform with the expectations of my genre and considered possible names such as:

Amelia May                Roxanne              Alexa Marie           Kiara Malone

I considered many more and used a name generator for suggestions. In the end I chose the name:

Alexa Marie

Song Lyrics

These are the lyrics for my song choice. The lyrics hold the meaning to the song whcih could either be amplified, contradicted or ilustrated in the music video, according to Andrew Goodwin. This also sets the tone for the music video, giviing each shot meaning and purpose.

Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
(Yeah)
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
(Yeah)
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Boy, I know you heard around town
That your girl got fine and that hurts you, yeah
Boy, I heard you gained a few pounds
Well, I lost some, boy, you really lost one here
(Hey)
I ain't gonna front, boy, I'm gonna start on you
'Cause the tables are turned
And a lesson you're gonna learn
Is you should know
I bet that you regret the day you left
'Cause I'm doing fine and you're a mess
Well, let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me now, how you like me now?
You didn't understand what I could be
Everything I was, you couldn't see
Now let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me, how you, how you like me now?
Boy, you left me crying in the streets
'Cause you didn't wanna deal with my drama
(Hey)
Boy, and now you're begging on your knees
For a piece of me and that's called karma
(Oh hey)
I ain't gonna front, boy, I'm gonna start on you
'Cause, boy, you got and, boy, you aren't
And a lesson you gonna learn
Is you should know
I bet that you regret the day you left
'Cause I'm doing fine and you're a mess
Well, let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me now, how you like me now?
You didn't understand what I could be
Everything I was, you couldn't see
Now let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me, how you, how you like me now?
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
(Yeah)
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
'Cause you should know
I bet that you regret the day you left
'Cause I'm doing fine and you're a mess
Well, let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me now, how you like me now?
You didn't understand what I could be
Everything I was, you couldn't see
Now let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me, how you, how you like me now?
I bet that you regret the day you left
'Cause I'm doing fine and you're a mess
Well, let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me now, how you like me now?
You didn't understand what I could be
Everything I was, you couldn't see
Now let me ask you, how do you like me now?
How you like me, how you, how you like me now?
Na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na

Song choice

The song I have chosen to use for my coursework is the song 'How You Like Me Now' by Alexis Jordan. It was released in 2011 on her self-titled album 'Alexis Jordan'. The lyrics express her feelings towards her ex boyfriend who after dumping her wants her back.
After showing the 3 short-listed songs to members of my target audience, they chose this one because 'it has an upbeat pace and a lot of attitude.'

Song Choices Shortlisted

Shontelle - t shirt
This song has an easy concept as the lyrics point the visuals in a particular direction. My idea for this would be to have my actress doing as the lyrics say, deciding whether she should go out and laying in bed with her ex-boyfriends t-shirt on.

Alexis Jordan - How you like me now
This song is about a girl showing her ex-boyfriend that he made a mistake breaking up with her. My idea for this music video would involve my actress showing off her new-improved self with alot of attitude and confidence
Cher Lloyd - want u back
This song is about wanting her boyfriend back after seeing him with someone else. My idea for this song would involve alot of moping around in sheets and a few flashbacks to their relationship

Recreate Album Cover

Whilst researching different album covers for ideas, one thing we had to take into consideration was whether we could produce something similar to the high-budget covers with the equipment we have. I chose to recreate the album cover for Pink Floyd’s 8th studio album ‘Dark side of the moon’.
I chose this album because the cover has a simple image. It is a plain black background with a light prism in the centre. Light prisms split up a single light beam to form a spectrum which is the rainbow we see coming out the right side of the prism. There is no text on this album cover.
When recreating this image I initially used Microsoft Paint to draw the triangle, light beam and the rainbow of colours, using the reference picture for accuracy. I then transferred that Image into Microsoft word to add the white to black gradient section within the triangle. I did this because paint did not have the right tools for me to do this directly from there. Once in work I overlaid a new triangle, fitting it to the inside of the existing one. I used the gradient tool to make it gradient from white to black and removed any borders. I print screened the final image and moved it back into paint to save as a .jpeg file
If I were to recreate this again, I would pay more attention to the proportions by making the triangle smaller. I would also make the colours on the right taper out slightly, something which I hadn't taken properly into account this time.
After attempting this recreation I believe the outcome was similar to the original However more sophisticated software may have been used to create the original and it would have been done by an experienced professional which I am not. After exploring this technique I have decided not to use it for my own album cover as I would like to use a photograph which gives off a more mature vibe.

Lip Synching

Lip Sync (lip synchronisation) is when artists move their lips silently in synchronization with a pre-recorded soundtrack.
This technique has been used since the late 1970’s and has become increasingly common, being used since by a range of different artists in the majority of the music videos.
During live performances artists may use this technique due to illness on the day of performance or singers that may not be as comfortable or confident in their live vocals.
Lip Synching in music videos is often used now to help the artist perform better during the recording as they do not need to worry about the vocals. They can focus all their attention on the choreography or looking good as they 'sing'.
I will be using this technique in my music video as it conforms to a stereotype of most music videos. Here is an example of somebody lip synching to the song Cheerleader by OMI.

Introduction and Breif

Welcome to Winnie Sunday Dacosta's Year 13 Media Blog.
Our brief this year is to create a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with a digipak for the album’s release and a magazine advertisement for the digipak.
Research will be conducted individually and planning, production and post-production for our music video will be carried out in our groups.
